OmniSource is one of North America's largest processors, distributors, and managers of scrap and secondary metals. It collects, processes, resells, and trades a wide variety of ferrous and nonferrous scrap. Its primary collection and processing facilities are concentrated in the Midwest, the South, and the Mid-Atlantic regions of the US. But its reach stretches across North America, utilizing a wide-ranging fleet of trucks, containers, railcars, and barges to collect and haul metals. The company also acquires metals from industrial scrap generators. Founded in 1943, the company recycles more than 7 million tons of ferrous scrap and more than a billion pounds of nonferrous and stainless-steel scrap annually. OmniSource is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Steel Dynamics.
