Description
Basin Electric Power Cooperative is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative incorporated in 1961 to provide supplemental power to a consortium of rural electric cooperative. As do other electric-powered items in nine states including Montana, Iowa, Colorado, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and New Mexico. The consumer-owned power generation and transmission co-op provides power to about 140 rural electric member systems, which serve some 3 million people. It has a generating capacity of almost 5,220 MW of wholesale electric generating capability and has nearly 7,385 MW of capability within its resource portfolio. Other subsidiaries have included Dakota Coal, Basin Cooperative Services, Montana Limestone, and Souris Valley Pipeline.
