Photronics is the world's leading manufacturer of photomasks, which are high-precision photographic quartz or glass plates containing microscopic images of electronic circuits. Photomasks are a key tool in the process for manufacturing integrated circuits (ICs) and flat-panel displays (FPDs) and are used as masters to transfer circuit patterns onto semiconductor wafers and FPD substrates during the fabrication of ICs, a variety of FPDs and, to a lesser extent, other types of electrical and optical components. It currently has manufacturing plants in Taiwan, the US, China, Europe, and Korea. About 85% of the company's sales are from customers outside the US. The company was founded in 1969.
