Lianhua Supermarket operates more than 4,500 supermarkets, hypermarkets, and convenience stores in more than 20 Chinese provinces, making it the country's #1 grocery retailer. Its segments operate under the brand names of Century Mart, Lianhua Supermarket, Hualian Supermarket, and Lianhua Quik. Since its IPO in 2003, Lianhua has been expanding rapidly in China's fragmented retail market. In particular, it is focusing on building its hypermarket business to better compete with foreign rivals, such as France's Carrefour, Tesco in the UK, and Wal-Mart. Lianhua is owned by Shanghai Bailian Group, China's largest retailer.
