Republic Steel (formerly Republic Engineered Products) is North America's leading supplier of Special Bar Quality (SBQ) steel bars, a highly engineered product used in axles, drive shafts, suspension rods, and other critical components of automobiles, off-highway vehicles, and industrial equipment. Its products have included hot rolled bars and coils, cold finished bars, bottom-poured ingots, as well as rod and wire. Republic Steel manufactures carbon and alloy bar products in rounds, hexagons, squares, and flats, and offers cold-finished bars in a variety of special finishes, grades, and qualities, and performs various thermal treatments, and other value-added processes to the product. Republic Steel has been a unit within Mexican steelmaker Grupo Simec since 2005, but it traces its roots back to 1886, when it was founded as Berger Manufacturing Co.
