Alleghany's subsidiary Alleghany Capital Corporation owns and supports a diverse portfolio of eight non-financial businesses. With over $8.5 billion of gross premiums written (GPW) in 2022, Alleghany and its subsidiaries are leading providers in the reinsurance, excess and surplus and specialty insurance markets. In 2022, Alleghany was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway for a total equity value of approximately $11.6 billion.
