ArcelorMittal South Africa is the largest maker of long and flat steel products in Africa, supplying more than 60% of its steel and boasting a presence in 60-plus countries. Products include billets, carbon steel, cold-rolled steel sheets, hot-rolled steel plates, and stainless steel. Its Vanderbijlpark Works and Saldanha Steel plants produce flat steel while its Newcastle and Vereeniging Works turn out long steel products. The company's flat rolled unit represents about two-thirds of sales; it also produces commercial coke for the ferro-alloy industry. Customers come from the auto, petrochemical, oil and gas, and mining industries. ArcelorMittal, the world's top steel producer, owns about 47% of the company.
