(The vessels are so named because shipping containers, cars, and heavy equipmentcan be rolled onto them on chassis or lifted on by cranes.) Saltchuk Resources, owner of Totem Ocean Trailer Express, owns 90% of Sea Star Lines; Puerto Rico-based Taino Star owns 10%. Sea Star is subject to the Jones Act, a federal law that allows only vessels controlled and operated by US companies to transport cargo between US ports.
