Why Is the Strait of Hormuz Important?
Connecting the Persian Gulf to global markets, the Strait of Hormuz dictates world oil prices, and any disruption can cause prices to spike instantly. Roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply typically squeezes through this bottleneck. Over 80% of the crude oil and LNG that moves through the Strait of Hormuz goes to Asian markets, primarily China, India and Japan.
